Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has created a simple interactive presentation using Google Map that allows gauging sentiment of population of Commonwealth Electorates on key social, moral, economic and policy issues that were debated during the 2013 federal election campaign.
Information is based on 1.4 million responses collected via the ABC’s Vote Compass tool. Results were weighted against Census information and are presented as a thematic map.
What emerges is a very interesting picture of “great divides” in the Australian society. In particular, the maps illustrate differences in points of view between city folks and rural electorates, between regions in capital cities (for example, East and West Sydney), or between haves and have nots. It is a rich material for political research and sociologists.
